Hello,

To assist with EOG test, students can use the website EducationGalaxy.com .Students already have a username and password. The username will be the first letter of their first name(Capitalized) and their entire last name(with the first letter Capitalize) followed by KHS. This will all be one word. For example if your scholar's name is John Doe, their username will be JDoeKHS.

The password to login in will be Kestrel. Please email me if you have any questions or difficulties logging in.

*Their will be no homework for ELA for the remainder of the year. Students can practice on reading skills using EducationGalaxy. com

Words to know

Context Clues: A skill that readers use to figure out the meaning of an unknown word, or words, in a sentence.

Types of Context Clues

1. Definition-Tells you the meaning of the unknown word directly.

2. Appositive- Has the meaning of the unknown word beside it, marked off by commas or dashes.

3. Examples- Tells the meaning by naming types of it.

4. Contrast- Tells the meaning of the unknown word by describing its opposite.

Examples

Definition: An asteroid is a rocky body that orbits the sun.


Appositive: An animal is a carnivore, or meat eater, may hunt for its food


Examples: The streets were filled with buses, taxis, and other vehicles


Contrast: Some areas on the earth receive steady rains, but deserts are arid

Text Vocabulary:

Overcome- to solve or conquer a difficulty

Association- A group of people officially organized for a certain purpose

Capitol- A building in which a government meets to create laws.

Drought- When there is little or no rain.

Dedicate-To devote all of your time and energy into a special purpose.

Publicity- Information given out to get the public's attention.

Violence- The use of physical force to cause harm.

Conflicts- When people have problems or disagreements with each other.

Horizon- The part of the sky where the Earth and the Sky meet.

Brilliant- Very bright





Starting Monday February 25th, Students will have a new type of homework for weekly assignments that will focus more on reading comprehension to start preparing them for the EOG.

Homework

*Homework is typically given on a Monday and due that Friday.

*If there is no school, homework is to be turned in that Thursday,.

*Homework is to be turned into the Homework bin which is located on the bookshelves in the back of my classroom. There is a bright pink sign that indicates which bin to turn the homework into.

*A: Top Bin-Period 1

B: Middle Bin-Period 2

C: Lower Bin-Period 3

*All late homework must be turned into the appropriate bin.
