WHEN: Wednesday 10/14 from 1pm-2:30pm EST
WHO: Anyone interested in the casting process! This work session is HIGHLY recommended if you would like to attend either or both of Kate’s subsequent work sessions.
WHAT: In this work session, Kate will walk us through the casting process from start to finish. We will examine casting as a craft and the nuts and bolts of how it works. She will explore how she brings humanity back to the casting process through her work, and how personhood, identity, and essence remain central to her work. This work session will include a live Q and A, and you will also be invited to submit questions for Kate ahead of time when you register.
CAPACITY: No limit
FORMAT: Zoom meeting
WHEN: Wednesday 10/21 from 1pm-2:30pm EST
WHO: Producers, Directors, Casting Directors, anyone interested in learning more about the casting process from behind the casting table
WHAT: In this work session, Kate will guide lab members through a mock casting process from a first read of a script through final casting. Using THE MAD ONES as a sample text, lab members will create breakdown language and explore the casting process as a true collaboration between producers, directors, and casting directors. This work session will investigate how we talk about actors as people in a way that is not harmful yet is efficient, how we create healthy relationships and language, and how we broaden the scope of who we see in a role.
CAPACITY: 50
FORMAT: Zoom meeting
WHEN: Wednesday 11/4 from 1pm-2:30pm EST
WHO: Actors, performers, and anyone interested in observing what happens in the audition room itself
WHAT: In this work session, Kate will hold mock Zoom auditions for...you guessed it, THE MAD ONES. 6-8 lab members can register to “audition” for this production, bringing 16-32 bars of something in your book. This work session will specifically target how to take material you already have in your book and make it applicable to the piece, so please select something you already know that is not from THE MAD ONES. Kate will walk you through the Zoom audition process, providing feedback and notes. While the auditionees are capped at 6-8 lab members, others are welcome to join us as observers.
