Information for Parents

Dear Parents,

I am so happy to have your student in my class and I am really looking forward to getting to meet them in person. Distance learning would never be my first choice, but we will make do the best we can.

Chemistry has notoriously difficult subject but I am here for extra support. When we get back to school, I offer tutoring everyday at lunch and until then, my current schedule allows for small group, online tutoring each afternoon.

I love getting emails from parents. Having open lines of communication really helps when students are having a difficult time.

Although the distance learning portion of this course is somewhat different, the majority of my class is taught using inquiry based learning. This means that a lot of the students learning is intended to come through exploration and discovery in classroom projects and labs. This is the scientific way, but is a bit frustrating for kids always looking for the exact right answer. This method is consistent with the latest in educational research and is also consistent with the way scientists solve real-world problems. If your student is struggling with this methodology, please have your student contact me so we can discuss possible solutions.
