Q & A With Mr. Hamm
Where did I go to school? I attended Hort Elementary, Compton Jr. High, and Foothill High School. After graduation I was a Renegade for 2 years before I transferred to Montana State University where I earned my Bachelors of Science in Soils and Environmental Science. Several years later I attended Point Loma Nazarene University where I received my teaching certificate. I am currently attending University of Iowa where I am pursuing a masters in STEM Education.
What are your interests outside of teaching? I have many interests outside of school. I am involved in my church (Wellspring Free Methodist Church) and enjoy hobbies such as photography and backpacking. Some of my pictures can be found on Instagram @eli_eli_oh. I like gardening and have transformed my backyard into a growers space with raised beds. I am also into more extreme sports like surfing, downhill skiing, rock climbing, and mountain biking. I am still working on learning to play the guitar and banjo.
What are you reading now? The Lord of the Rings series are my all time favorites but this summer I have been reading a lot about race with books like "I'm Still Here" by Austin Channing Brown, "White Fragility" by Robin DiAngelo, and "For White Folks That Teach in the Hood: And the Rest of Y'all too" by Christopher Emdin.
Do you enjoy coaching? I love being a BHS swim coach. I was a swimmer in high school and swam on the team at BC. The BC swim team was incredibly fun. I like giving BHS swimmers the same experience.
Have any of your kids attended BHS? I have 4 daughters and three have graduated from BHS. I am incredibly proud of all my girls. Between all of them, there are way to many accomplishments to list. One special time was when my second daughter, who has Downs Syndrome, was given the opportunity to speak at her baccalaureate https://youtu.be/AnFd0ukvwWk
