WorkAbility I is a state-funded school-to-work program designed to help students in special education transition successfully from high school to the workforce. Funded by a grant from the California Department of Education, the program focuses on Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE), lifelong learning, and career awareness. It bridges the gap between the classroom and the professional world by collaborating with over 100 business and community partners.
The program is specifically designed for:
Secondary students (high school level) who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Students who are 16 years of age or older.
Students who demonstrate a readiness to work independently within the community.
Students participate in a variety of hands-on activities and training sessions to build marketable skills, including:
Career Exploration: Engaging in job shadowing and career awareness activities.
Pre-Employment Training: Learning essential job-seeking and job-keeping skills.
Work Experience: Gaining both paid (subsidized) and non-paid vocational experience.
Professional Development: Receiving ongoing support and guidance from vocational personnel to ensure a smooth transition into the workforce.
