Job Corps
Job Corps is a free, federally-funded career training and education program for young adults (ages 16–24). Designed as a pathway for students when traditional college isn't the right fit, it provides hands-on vocational training, housing, meals, and living allowances at no cost. Students live on one of the 120+ campuses nationwide while receiving free room, board, and basic health care. Training is available in in-demand industries, such as advanced manufacturing, construction, health care, culinary arts, and information technology. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or authorized to work in the U.S. For students in and around Bakersfield, CA, there are multiple centers across the state (such as the nearby Fresno Job Corps Center or Los Angeles Job Corps Center) that provide various trade offerings. The Peace Corps service is a life-defining leadership experience. Since 1961, the Peace Corps has shared with the world America's most precious resource – its people. Peace Corps provides volunteers with language, cross-cultural and technical training. The type of work a volunteer does is ultimately determined by the needs of a host country and the potential of a volunteer’s skills.
Eligibility:
Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, and typically hold a 4-year degree for many assignments (though professional experience can be substituted in some cases).
Benefits:
Volunteers receive full coverage for medical and dental expenses during service, housing, a monthly living allowance tailored to the local economy, and a $10,000 transition award upon completing their service.

Applicants can choose to serve in any country that needs them most or opt into the Virtual Service Pilot for shorter-term, online projects.
College Corps is a service program created with California colleges and universities. Fellows serve on campus or with local nonprofits. Am I eligible to apply?
To join College Corps, you must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at a participating campus and:
Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident or AB 540 eligible.
You must have submitted or plan to submit a California Dream Act Application (CADAA) for the academic year prior to that application.
Commit to the program for the full academic year.
Have to work to pay for school or demonstrate financial need (like qualifying for a Federal Pell Grant, State Cal Grant, or Middle Class Scholarship

Individuals who complete a term of service in an AmeriCorps California program may earn up to $10,000 for college and trade school. The California For All and Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards are offered to individuals who complete a term of service and can be used to pay for a range of educational expenses, like repaying qualified student loans or future tuition payments. You can earn up to two full Education Awards with multiple service terms.
