Mr. Pointer's

U.S. History

I take my duty to both parents and students very seriously. I believe with all my heart that the care and education of your children is a sacred trust, and that I am obligated to provide the highest quality, most demanding instruction possible.

In this course, students will acquire knowledge of American history from the colonial period to the turn of the Twentieth Century, with major emphasis on the development of American ideals and institutions. Students will use original source documents and other resources to supplement the text as they study the social, cultural, intellectual, economic, political, and diplomatic history of our country. This will require all students who take this course to develop and practice good reading, essay writing, and critical thinking skills, and to continually improve theses skills as the school year progresses.

As the father of four, I fully understand your desire as parents that your children will be challenged, and that they achieve academic success which will someday translate into success in life.

I will, to the very best of my ability, provide your child with a safe and secure, highly demanding learning environment. I will help you, in my own way, to guide your child to become a productive member of our society. This, after all, is the desired outcome of any child's education.

"Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government."
