Dear Parents,
We wanted to take a moment to explain the Kerens Independent School District's grading policy to ensure that you have a clear understanding of how your child's academic progress will be assessed. Our grading policy is designed to provide a fair and accurate reflection of your child's mastery of the subject matter and their overall growth.
Here are some key points about our grading policy:
1. **Weighted Categories**: We use weighted categories to evaluate different aspects of your child's academic performance. This includes tests and projects which are weighted 50%, and daily classwork which is weighted 50%. There will be at least 12 daily grades and 3 test grades per 9 weeks period.
2. **Mastery-Based Approach**: We emphasize mastery of the content, allowing students to retake assessments if they haven't demonstrated full understanding initially. Our goal is to support your child's learning journey and ensure they grasp the material. Reteach and retest will be done within 3 days of the original assessment.
3. **Progress Tracking**: We encourage both students and parents to regularly review their grades online through our student portal. This helps keep track of assignments and their progress over time. Progress reports are sent home in between report cards. If you need assistance getting into the Parent Portal to view grades, please call the office for assistance.
4. **Communication**: We value open communication between teachers, parents, and students. If you have any concerns or questions about your child's grades or performance, please don't hesitate to reach out to the appropriate teacher for the subject: Rowland - Science, Kaldahl - English/Language Arts, Moody - Math.
We believe that a comprehensive grading policy helps foster a positive and effective learning environment. Your involvement and support play a crucial role in your child's academic success. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or if you would like further clarification on any aspect of our grading policy.
Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. We look forward to a successful and productive school year together.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kaldahl,Mrs. Moody and Mrs. Rowland kaldahll@kerensisd.org
