Our group uses optical methods to interrogate the physics of novel structures including magnetic semiconductors, topological insulators, 2D van der Waals structures and wide-bandgap semiconductors. Specifically, we use spectroscopic techniques to study the behavior of electrons and phonons in these novel structures. Such studies are important in predicting their potential to produce better devices including computers, lasers and hard drives in the future.
