STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Each week in STEM class, we focus on one or more of these concepts in a fun and unique way!
Check this site regularly for updates on STEM class activities!
NOVEMBER / DECEMBER
In November and December we focused on Digital Citizenship, along with unplugged and online coding. The students also did some Thanksgiving activities, like creating a cage for their turkeys (see photo), and enjoyed Free Day Festival in December!
Using teamwork to build!
Media Balance:
Some important practices that we talk about are: saying hi to friends when we're on a device, taking time to go outdoors, and putting devices away before bed time.
Turkey Trouble - We listened to the story, made a turkey and then built a pen for our turkeys.
OCTOBER
The theme of October was physical and digital structures. The students used strong shapes to build structures in real life and on the computer. Check out their work below!
SEPTEMBER
The theme of September was Animal Engineers. Students designed ant tunnels, built birds' nests, developed a hands-free penguin egg carrier and more!

COMPUTATIONAL THINKING
We practice computational thinking in STEM.
Computational thinking includes:
-looking for patterns 🧐
-breaking problems into smaller parts (decomposing) 🤔
-finding and fixing mistakes (debugging) 💡
-focusing on the necessary information (abstraction) 🤩
We use these concepts in STEM, and work to apply them in our classrooms, too!
