  • Language Goal: How do I move my audience from point A to point B? How do others do this? Do this:

            • Get computers and read each other's quotes and analysis. How amazing is this?

            • How to give amazing (and helpful) peer feedback.

            • Watch me model how to do this with one of your quotes.

  • Social Goal: Be on task 90-95% of the time. STOP "playing school." Make your learning RELEVANT! Give someone a genuine compliment.

  • Daily Motivation: Focus 4: How are you a good communicator? . How might you get better at this? How might you use your already-great skills to help others?

Amazing peer feedback:

  • Using "I like..."

  • Using tentative language: "How might you..." "I wonder..." etc...

  • Copy and paste evidence from their analysis to back up what you say.

  • Constructive criticism using that tentative language

  • Ex:

  • Your peer's name,

I see your thoughts on the author using ethos as a way to get their audience to think. I wonder how you might get away from using the word "ethos" and be raw about what the other does...it could be something like "(author) contrasts powers of good and bad...". There is so much in this quote that can be broken apart and looked into. I challenge you to look at each idea listed in this quote and pull out what your author is doing to show each. This is a great start.

Ex: Your peer's name--you are doing exactly what you need to be doing! Specifically, when you begin your analysis with noticing the diction that creates a sense of unity. Here's how you might make it even better: "Malcolm X uses the very first words ("Our people") of this excerpt..." Make sure you are being VERY specific. When you say "first words," name them! Don't call the quote a "quote." Call it a "passage" or an "excerpt."

  • Agenda for Wednesday, 11.15.17:

  • Daily Check: Reading time, book talks.

  • Tonight's homework: Do any late/absent work. You should have your author/journalist project book/articles finished; paper due Nov. 29th.

  • Language Goal: How do I move my audience from point A to point B? How do others do this? Finish this:

          • Show your ability to notice the above by analyzing a multiple choice test.

          • What does each question ask you to do? How do we address this in class already? What might we need to add/focus more on in class?

          • Then do this:

            • Watch me model how to do this with one of your quotes.

  • Social Goal: Be on task 90-95% of the time. STOP "playing school." Make your learning RELEVANT! Give someone a genuine compliment.

  • Daily Motivation: Focus 4: How are you a good communicator? . How might you get better at this? How might you use your already-great skills to help others?
