Ft. Wright Elementary Library Media Center

Our Mission

The mission of the Ft. Wright Elementary Library Media Center is to provide world-class, current print and online resources to support and collaborate with academic and individual needs of ALL scholars to help ensure college and/or career readiness and preparedness for the 21st Century.

Intellectual Freedom Statement

We believe that there are books for every reader, but not every book is for every reader.  Our certified professional, full-time library media specialist makes book and non-print selections considering the needs of our entire diverse population.  Parents/guardians certainly may discuss parameters with their own scholars for  their personal book selection.

We do uphold the freedom to read and access information as protected by our First Amendment Rights.  We recognize and adhere to the American Library Association's Freedom to Read Statement and the Library Bill of Rights.  Our school library serves all students and desires to offer high quality materials to meet academic and recreational needs of all of our students.

We also stand with the American Library Association (ALA) to Unite Against Book Bans

Library Hours

The library is open Monday through Friday 8:25-3:36.  Students have a specific time to come to the library (listed below), but can exchange their books anytime they are finished with them, with their teacher's permission.  Our library teaches self-checkout for this purpose.

Students in grades K-5 visit the library once a week to check out books and to participate in instruction that supports their classroom instruction.  Students work to develop foundational skills that allows them to be successful through their academic careers and to become productive members of society.

Kindergarten and first grade students may check out one (1) book per week.  Students in second through fifth grades may check out two (2) books per week.  Books should be returned after one week unless renewed.  Normally, students check out books during their normally scheduled library times, but may also come to the library for check out or book exchange during any available open time.  Please see the library schedule for more details on open times.
