Take a look at the information below to see if this course is something that intrigues you or strikes questions or ideas for how this might be helpful for your teaching and learning. This Module 0 is not part of our structured course, but rather a brief introduction to Design Thinking.
With the possibility of having to teach (and receive Professional Development) at a distance in mind, we’ve created this program to be completed both online and with limited “face” (synchronous) time. The program is made up of 3 learning cycles, with each consisting of:
Synchronous Experiential
A live virtual session where you will LEARN by DOING.
Asynchronous Learning & Reflection
A “deeper dive” component where you complete the Virtual Course Playlist of videos, resources and activities asynchronously (on your own).
Job Embedded Application
An opportunity to apply what you learned from the live session with your students, during instructional time. This can be done in a face-to-face environment or remotely.
Synchronous Reflection with Mentor
A chance to reflect on and debrief your experiences with a design thinking mentor.
The Design Thinking Academy has been designed with all educators in mind. Design Thinking concepts can begin as early as kindergarten and refined throughout the years all the way up to 12th grade students. As this is a practice that has been implemented by many businesses, the concepts and thinking strategies know no age boundaries!
Have you heard about Design Thinking and wondered what it was or if it was something that would work for your classroom teaching and learning? Well, look no further!
To get started with this course you will need a computer, stable Internet connection, pencil/pen, paper, and sticky notes. Any recyclable or building materials for prototying will be helpful.
This learning opportunity will provide you with a flexible learning experience through both real time (synchronous) online sessions and self-paced (asynchronous) learning and reflections.
The calendar will be discussed at our first meeting as well as the pacing for the modules and their contents.
