Homework

Homework policy

The purpose of homework is to reinforce concepts taught in class and to expand knowledge. Homework is to be completed on time.

Students are responsible for writing their assignments daily in their assignment books. Assigned homework is posted on the Google Calendar for grades 5 and 6. This does not take the responsibility away from the student, but it is in place in case a student needs a reminder.

Grade 5 reading students explore various genres and figurative language. Homework assigned is to reinforce these concepts. Later in the year, novels will be explored and the homework applies to concepts taught pertaining to the novel.

Grade 6 students learn about various grammar concepts. They will have homework to reinforce these skills. Students are expected to apply these concepts in their writing. By the end of the year, students will teach a class of a chosen grammar topic.

Be sure to check out the link page for reinforcement of grammar concepts taught.

Most weeks, students will have skills homework Monday and Tuesday nights. In addition, there may be reading homework, and/or writing homework to reinforce higher-level thinking. Most writing is done in class, and students are allowed to revise and resubmit writing work within the same marking period.

During reading, students work at their own pace to expand vocabulary. They learn new words through novels and using a membean program.
