Hello, my name is Molly Benson. I will graduate from Kent State University’s MLIS program in Fall 2023.
As a student, my area of interest focused on the Information Access and Discovery Pathway - which aims to connect people to information. My coursework revolved around information sources and reference services; collection management in libraries; the public library; and leadership in libraries and information centers, to name a few.
I began working in the Acquisitions Department at the Dayton Metro Library in 2019 with no prior library experience. I wanted to learn more about the inner workings of public libraries. Therefore, my motivation for earning an MLIS degree comes from a desire to provide better service to our patrons and provide them with access to all types of information. Providing patrons access to information is essential now more than ever since librarians today face increasing book bans, misinformation, and attacks on intellectual freedom. I aspire to become the Collection Development Director at the Dayton Metro Library. I will use the tools I have learned at Kent State to help ensure that all of the Dayton Metro Library’s patrons can access all our information resources.
Thank you for your time!
