March 16, 2020

Dear KAPA Families,

We are living in a historic moment. As such, please be assured that we are making the best decisions we can on a daily (and sometimes hourly) basis for our students and our employees.

To that end, based on current information and recommendations available as of March 16, 2020, we have made the following updates to our COVID-19 response:

CLASS UPDATES

  • Our temporary suspension of classes will begin effective immediately Monday, March 16, 2020.

  • Remote work policies for our employees will begin effective immediately Monday, March 16, 2020.

  • Our employees will follow the schools in shifting their attention from traditional content delivery to online engagement opportunities for students. More to come after this week (which is now our Spring Break week).

  • We will also continue to follow the lead of the State of Wisconsin Health Department and Kenosha County Health Department as to when it is safe for local schools to re-open for classes.

In closing, while there are many uncertainties in this time, here are a couple of things I DO know for certain from 33 years of teaching.

The kids are watching how the adults they trust are handling this situation.

They are taking cues from us as to how to process the entire situation. History is playing out before their eyes. Little ones are going to need extra assurance, time and familiar things. It's also worth noting that kids who are of the age of having a cell phone are not only hearing updates from schools, national networks, and home but they are also getting a 24/7 info-feed from on social platforms like Snapshot and TikTok. Teens may act like they are okay, but check in with them anyway...You might not think they are listening, but they are.

Lastly, as many of you know our studio not only serves our students here in Kenosha, but is also affiliated with 300 studios around the world through our More Than Just Great Dancing!® Affiliated Studios program. Those studios serve 120,000 kids each week - ALL of whom are going through the same thing we are right now. Just like your kids are looking to you right now, our affiliated studios are looking to us. I just wanted to thank you AGAIN for being an amazing studio family - your support helps not just our Kenosha kids, but kids across the world as well.

With much appreciation,

Annie Hackett
