Yoshinkan is inviting all female Kendoka to join a Women's Kendo Development Seminar in Wellington from 24th to 26th of November, 2023.
The focusses of the seminar will be developing women's kendo and teaching techniques as well as Shimpan training. There will also be an opportunity to grade from 1st Kyu to 4th Dan.
Male instructors from 2nd Dan and above are also welcome to the seminar, and all men in bogu will be welcome to join several Mawarigeiko sessions throughout the weekend.
Finally, we are honoured to share that the event will play host to several senior Sensei visiting from Japan.

Along with our sister clubs, Wellington Iaido and Wellington Naginata, Yōshinkan ran a stall and gave performances at Japan Festival 2022.
Following this, we are hosting a Beginners Course from 29 June.

This weekend, Yōshinkan sent four members to these two events. While we didn't place in any of the competitions , all of our team fought well, and Mike L passed his First Dan! It was a great weekend - thank you Auckland Kendo Club for hosting!

This weekend, Yōshinkan sent four members to these two events, and achieved the following:
Yōshinkan Won the Inoue Hai Kata Competition.
Yōshinkan won Second Place in the North Island Teams Competition (with the help of some new friends!)
Nick won Second Place in the North Island Open.
Anteni won a Fighting Spirit Award.
Nick passed his Fourth Dan!

This weekend, Yōshinkan sent eight contestants to the 19th Rembuden Taikai, and acheived the following:
Frank won Bronze (equal) in the Mens' Junior Dan Competition
Facundo won Gold in the Mens' Senior Dan Competition
Yōshinkan Team A (Facundo, Patrick, and Anteni) won Gold in the Open Team Competition.
It was a fantastic event, and our contestants and teams fought extremely well against strong competition.

Yōshinkan sent a team to the NZKF National Championships in Invercargill, and Patrick and Frank won Silver place in the kata contest.

Yōshinkan recently a grading at the Mt Cook Dojo. Congratulations to the six kendoka who achieved a new grade, and thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success!

Sue Lytollis has been awarded the shōgō (title) of Renshi. More than a rank (dan), shōgō indicates a person's instruction abilities and knowledge of kendō.
Renshi is the first of three shōgō, the others being Kyōshi and Hanshi. A kendoka must have achieved the rank of Rokudan (Sixth Dan) to attempt Renshi.

We had an awesome seminar with Saito Makoto Sensei 7th Dan. We learned about body conditioning, injury prevention, and footwork techniques. He delivered a presentation on physiology, body movement, and improving Kendo with footwork. The event was attended event by members of Rembuden and Yōshinkan. Martin Lee provided excellent translation.
