Region One Announces Ms. Jill E. Johnson as the New Principal of Lee H. Kellogg School
Falls Village, CT – The Canaan Board of Education is pleased to announce the unanimous appointment of Jill E. Johnson as the next principal of Lee H. Kellogg School in Falls Village, effective August 10, 2026.
Ms. Johnson was selected following a comprehensive interview process that included multiple interviews with a committee composed of Lee H. Kellogg staff members, parents, Board of Education members, and administration. After extensive discussion and consideration, the interview team unanimously recommended Ms. Johnson for the position.
“Jill Johnson brings an incredible sense of warmth, instructional knowledge, and passion for the unique strengths of a small school,” said Superintendent Melony Brady-Shanley. “She understands the importance of relationships, community, and knowing every student as an individual. Her extensive experience in outdoor education also aligns beautifully with the vision and opportunities at Lee H. Kellogg School. We are excited to welcome Jill to our school community and look forward to working with her to expand and strengthen opportunities for our students.”
Ms. Johnson’s experience and leadership reflect a strong commitment to student-centered learning, instructional excellence, and the value of providing students with meaningful opportunities to learn both inside and outside the classroom. Her background in outdoor education will support the continued development of innovative learning experiences connected to Lee H. Kellogg School’s small-school design and the natural environment that surrounds the school.
Jill has a bachelor’s in liberal studies from Southern Connecticut State University with a focus on psychology and mathematics. She earned her master’s in math education and sixth-year certificate in educational leadership from the University of Bridgeport. She has spent her entire career in a small public charter school, first as a math teacher and then as its leader, and understands the unique challenges and opportunities that exist in a small school community.

She has a wonderful educational background, will immerse herself in the school and greater community, cares deeply for students of all ages, is collaborative minded, creative and hard working. She will be a great fit for Kellogg. The Board of Education looks forward to working with her and being a part of expanding Kellogg’s horizons.
