Google Classroom 90% of the time.
If we do something on paper. There is a blue tray at the back of my room.
What do I do if I’m absent?
Go to Google Classroom. Look in the Stream for the day you were absent. Each week I have ONE Doc that I update daily with absent work. If you were gone for an extended time, see me and I can email you the docs.
Make up work....one day for every day that you were absent, no late penalty.
When are tutorials?
Please set an appointment with me. We'll find a time at lunch, during advisory, or before school. There is also very little I can't fix if you will send me an email.
What happens if I need to leave the room?
Please tell Mrs. Appleby. One person out a time. Please write your name and the time out on the clipboard. Please take the hall pass with you!
You must have a hall pass wherever you are going!
Can I have snacks?
There is no food allowed in classrooms this year. COCKROACHES ARE EVERYWHERE in the 8th grade hallway. We MUST get them under control.
What happens if I turn in a late assignment?
-10% penalty for every day the assignment is late. After three days, a zero will be entered in the gradebook and I will not accept the assignment.
I will communicate with you and your parents about late work.
If you are absent, you have one extra day for every day you were absent to make up the work.

How will I be graded and can I do corrections?
I will follow the KISD grading policy in regards to weights. My formative grades are out of a specified number of points; usually indicated on a rubric.
I don’t accept corrections on formative assignments.
I follow the district policy on summative corrections when you have a 70% or below. Please SEE ME BEFORE doing any kind of corrections for remediation, tutorials, and a conference.
Important Deadlines:
Due dates for assignments: Since we submit on Google Classroom, I will take work without a late penalty until midnight the day it is due.

H: House Your Phone
Phones will be checked into the phone spa in every class in 8th grade. Your phone will not live in your backpack. It will have a relaxing time at the spa. Earbuds need to stay in your backpack. If your phone appears during class....
1st Infraction: I'll ask you to put it in the phone spa.
2nd Infraction: I will take your phone until the end of the day. You can pick it up at the end of the day. I'll contact your parents. You will have lunch detention. BTW: the end of the day is 4:00, not the beginning of 8th period
3rd Infraction: I will take your phone and you can pick it up in the office at the end of the day.
A: Attire
Nothing on your head. Tummies covered.
1st Infraction: I'll ask you to take off the hat. Or I will send you to the office for a full shirt.
Multiple offenses: I'll keep sending you to the office and they will notify your parents.
W: Watch the Clock
You need to be in the room when the bell rings.
1st Tardy: Warning
2nd Tardy: I'll contact your parents.
3rd Tardy: Lunch detention, parent contact
4th Tardy: 2 days of lunch detention, parent contact
5th Tardy: DR, parent contact

What does that look like? Clean up your space. Throw away your trash. Keep out the cockroaches.
Be a professional student
What does that look like? Be on time. Stay on task. Participate in group discussions. Be brave and ask questions. Meet deadlines for assignments. Listen to Mrs. Appleby with your head off your desk. Get help from Mrs. Appleby when you need it. Don't distract others so they can learn too.
Communicate with Mrs. Appleby
What does that look like? Talk with Mrs. Appleby about grades after class not in the middle of class. Email Mrs. Appleby at any time with questions. Tell Mrs. Appleby when something just isn't clicking. Tell Mrs. Appleby when you aren't sure what the directions mean.
Is Mrs. Appleby a mind reader? No. No she is not.
