True or False:
_____ To avoid plagiarism when paraphrasing you must cite your source. (Paraphrase means putting something in your own words.)
_____ Making up a source or using false information in a source is plagiarism.
_____ Purchasing a paper and using it as your own is plagiarism
_____ Forgetting to cite your sources is plagiarism even if you didn’t mean to
_____ It is plagiarism if you turn in the same paper for two different classes
From Mrs. Appleby:
You do not need to cite common knowledge. For example, everyone knows George Washington was the first president. You do not have to look up a source for that information.
It is plagiarism if...
you only change a few words from the original
use the same sentence structure
use the same ideas as the author in the same order.
You googled it and copied down the first thing that popped up. I have Google too; it's not hard for me to find what you copied from.
What is the consequence if you plagiarize in Mrs. Appleby’ class?
A: It depends on how bad it is. Similar words and phrases and quotes, I usually dock substantial points. If the entire thing is plagiarized, you will redo it or get a zero.
