What is KIC?

Vision

Creating an integrated and collaborative learning environment for KISD staff and students.

Timeline

Spring & Fall 2017

Keller ISD facilitated a series of listening events with multiple stakeholder groups seeking feedback about the ideal learning environment for our students in the future. The results of these focus groups were synthesized into a report to highlight themes. The main findings focused a desire for more personalized learning opportunities for students and support for educators to make that happen. Having a variety of devices available was also a desire but was surprisingly not the most-mentioned.

December 2017 - February 2018

Keller ISD sent out a questionnaire and conducted focus groups related to the greater vision of the district as we take a long-range look at the future of the district. A multi-stakeholder group met for 3 days in February to review all the data collected and draft a core set of values that will help guide Keller ISD in the years ahead.

February - March 2018

The draft versions of the core values were reviewed and feedback from the community was used to finalize them before the Board of Trustees approved them in May.

May 2018

The Keller ISD Technology Advisory Committee met and reviewed the data and provided feedback on a multi-year vision of creating an integrated learning and working environment for our students and staff.

May 2018

This multi-year effort was branded “KIC” (Keller Integration and Collaboration) and a core implementation team began weekly meetings to plan for the three main phases to begin this summer.

Phase 1: Transition to Google Suite

Phase 2: Retirement of KConnect - Refresh of KCloud

Phase 3: Integrated Learning Environment

June 2018

The Superintendent’s Leadership Team (SLT) transitioned from using Outlook to Gmail and Google Calendar first to serve as a pilot group.

June - July 2018

Departments coordinate with Technology and Communications team to migrate content out of K-Connect and into more user-friendly, streamlined content repositories. Main access will be from KCloud tiles.

July 2018

Principals and their secretaries will be trained on Gmail and Google Calendar and transition out of Outlook.

July 17-19, 2018

At Keller University, attendees will be able to preview the refreshed KCloud with links to the content that has been migrated out of KConnect. There will also be a Google Playground for attendees where short lessons on Google apps will be available.
