Each ELO Proposal/Contract is individually designed to outline the competencies, essential question, benchmarks, assessments, reflections, and plan for regular contact with the community/faculty mentor and ELO Coordinators, etc. After being collaboratively designed with ELO Coordinators, proposed contracts must be approved by ELO community partners and the KRHS Principal, a guidance counselor and an ELO Coordinators. ELOs that are undertaken for course credit must meet the proposal requirements. Students receive credit based on competency completion, student achievement goals, community partner expectations and other factors outlined in each proposal.
All ELOs begin with an informational meeting with the ELO Coordinators. This meeting offers information about the ELO process, commitment, and proposal. Coordinators listen to a student's ideas and passions and learn about involvement in opportunities outside of school, as well as goals, challenges, etc. Following this initial meeting, students are encouraged and supported in connecting with an appropriate community partner or faculty mentor. Students may already have this connection identified prior to coming to the initial meeting, but this is not required.
ELOs earning credit are finalized with a Pass, Withdrawal or Withdraw/Fail. If a student starts an ELO (and the ELO is in process), a decision to drop out of the ELO results in a Withdrawal or Withdraw/Fail (depending on the circumstances) being reflected on the official transcript.
ELOs that involve transportation to a community partner site, unless otherwise specified (such as in a pre-structured group ELO) requires students to transport themselves to the site. This will be established in the initial meeting's discussion.
