This course focuses on developing fundamental painting skills. Basic concepts of form and composition will be taught through exercises based on the basic elements and principles of art. This course contains large projects, critiques and sketching assignments. Painting mediums used in this class will be watercolor, acrylic, and oils. Students will learn color theory, composition and techniques through a wide variety of projects. This course explores various painting mediums, techniques, and compositional elements with special emphasis on portrait and life painting.
Prerequisites: Successful completion of Drawing. Recommended completion with a 3.0 or higher.
Painting II
This course focuses on developing the artist’s voice, style, message, and technical skillset. Students will be offered a higher level of creative freedom within works, while being held to a higher technical understanding. Students will be heavily focusing on idea development and the critical thinking that goes into creating. Students will participate in class critiques and/or artist statements with each project completed.
Prerequisites: Successful completion of Painting I. Recommended completion with a 3.0 or higher OR by approval through portfolio review,
