Science CBE Grading Policy:

CBE Grades

4 - The student actively builds new knowledge, transfers skills, and expands their thinking in new and novel contexts.

3 - The student applies learned knowledge and skills in a variety of familiar contexts.

2 - The student is beginning to apply learned knowledge and skills in limited familiar contexts.

1 - The student is beginning to develop a basic understanding of the knowledge and skills

NE/0 - No Evidence - The student has not demonstrated sufficient evidence of learning to receive feedback.

IN - Incomplete - The student has been given extended time to demonstrate their learning due to excused reasons.

KRMS Habits of Mind - The KRMS Habits of Mind are competencies which describe the attributes KRMS students develop to become successful learners.  Each of the three habits, respect, responsibility, and resilience, is tied to traits of the KRMS Learner. Habits of Mind must be included in each unit through direct instruction, assessment, and feedback to students. 

Practice Work - is not graded and cannot be reassessed.  Students will receive feedback on late practice work up to 7 calendar days from the due date but it will be noted as late in PowerSchool and reflected in the Habits of Mind. However, completion of incomplete or missing practice work may be included as part of a Remediation Plan

Due Dates - are communicated ahead of time to students. Due dates are an important component of the learning process and help students learn and demonstrate the KRMS Habits of Mind - respect, responsibility, and resilience. 

Progress Reports - Parents/guardians are encouraged to monitor PowerSchool throughout the semester to stay up to date with their child’s learning.  Progress reports, in the form of a reminder to parents to check PowerSchool, are sent two times each semester.

Report Cards - report cards will be issued at the end of each semester.

 Relearning and Reassessment allow students the opportunity to demonstrate competency, promote student reflection and growth, and provide for reteaching and relearning of challenging material.  Reassessment provides and encourages student self-advocacy and ownership of their learning. 

For students to be eligible to reassess, they must make a reasonable, good faith attempt to complete the assessment by the due date or have communicated with their teacher to provide an excused reason for needing extended time.  Depending on the assessment, students may only be required to reassess specific learning targets rather than the entire assessment.  In some cases, there may be assessments later in the unit or semester for the student to demonstrate the learning target and no reassessment is necessary after the relearning.

Formative or Summative Assessments - 

• 1 or NE - Students must reassess formative and summative work to demonstrate learning and teacher will work with them to develop a remediation plan

• 2 or 3 - Students may reassess for learning by requesting to meet with the teacher within or the teacher may direct the student to meet and develop a remediation plan

• Remediation plans must be assigned within 4 school days of the assessment being posted in PowerSchool

• In any reassessment, the higher grade will be recorded

Remediation Plans are used to communicate clear expectations for relearning and remediation agreed upon by the student and teacher. Certain assessments may not need to be reassessed if there are ample future opportunities within the semester for the students to demonstrate competency.  However, reteaching and relearning may be required prior to the next assessment. Remediation plans will include:

• The specific learning targets to be remediated

• Support or reteaching from the teacher

• The tasks the student needs to complete for relearning 

• How the student will demonstrate the remediated learning

• The scheduled date for completion which must be completed within 2 weeks of the original result posted in PowerSchool.

• Communication to parents
