KCUSD Teacher Spotlight- Kirby Kauk (Kings River Life, May 8, 2021)

Kings River Life article about Mr. Kauk (Nov 2010)

Montana native Kirby Kauk received his Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education with an emphasis in Sports Medicine from Western Montana College in Dillon (May '86). He went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in Physical Education from Fresno State University (Dec. '90). Upon his arrival to RHS in the fall of 1986, he was responsible for the creation and development of the sports medicine program at Reedley High. He continued to serve in this dual position of head athletic trainer and teacher until June of 2005. Kauk has been a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) since June of 1986. In June of 2001, Kauk was a presenter at the NATA's National Clinical Symposia in Los Angeles, CA. The topic of the presentation was "Strategies for Improving Your Situation at the Secondary School Level".

Even though he has "retired" from his after school head athletic trainer responsibilities, he has continued to teach Sports Medicine, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and Biology classes in the science department. Kauk has maintained his involvement with the after school sports medicine program by continuing to mentor and advise students involved in the Sports Medicine club. He continues to teach the KINES20: Athletic Training course at Reedley College during the spring semesters.

He and his wife, Kathi, have three children (all RHS graduates and all married)...Cameron (Bri), Lindsay (Karl), and Emily (Vince), and five grandchildren...Parker, Carver, Brinley, Cambria, and Daylynne. He enjoys spending time with family & friends, woodworking, exercise/fitness, being outdoors, watching the D-backs, Saints, and Seahawks with their dogs Brutus and Helga, and cooking up goodies on his Traeger grill.
