Our brand new school opened January 4, 2019. We have really been enjoying our open, modern library! Our collection is organized into the following categories:

  • EVERYONE: The "E" section has picture books for everyone to enjoy. You are never too old for a picture book.

  • FICTION: The fiction collection is organized by fiction genres. Genres are denoted by colored spine labels and they each have a graphic symbol to help remind students of the genres. The graphics are clearly visible on painted canvases above these sections.

  • NONFICTION: We have recently reorganized our Nonfiction collection into whole number Dewey format. The Dewey categories are clearly labeled with magazine holders and shelf labels. Students have reported that this helps them find the books that they are interested in checking out.

  • BIOGRAPHY: While biographies are technically nonfiction, we have them in their own "B" category to help students find them quickly and intuitively. They are organized by the last name of the person they are about and labeled with magazine holders.

  • GRAPHIC NOVELS: Graphic novels have become immensely popular in the last few years. They can be confusing for students because they are technically considered nonfiction as they are works of art, however most of the plot lines in these books are fictional. The new library is laid out in a way that allows us to keep them somewhat separate from the rest of the collection, which helps remind students that they are unique.

  • SC BOOK AWARD NOMINEES: Our new library came with one shelf floating by itself near the entry door. We turned this into a place to spotlight the SC Picture and Children's Book Award Nominees each year.
