What is CTE?
Career & Technical Education courses at A.L. Brown High School prepares students for a wide range of careers and post-secondary opportunities by emphasizing real-world skills and practical knowledge.
Courses are taught by experienced industry professionals. Courses connect classroom learning to real-world applications, and build a strong foundation for college, technical training, military service, and the workforce.
CTE goals include:
Preparing students for continued education and employment
Supporting informed career and life decisions
Strengthening communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
Integrating learning across disciplines
Ensuring success for all students, including those with special needs
Career Development supports are provided to students through CTE. Work-based learning (WBL) is incorporated as an educational strategy that provides students with real-life work experiences where they can apply academic and technical skills and develop employability skills.
Work-based learning allows students to explore life outside the classroom through job shadowing, internships, apprenticeships, guest speakers, career days and other events. These opportunities provide students with first-hand, relevant experiences and bring learning to life! Sometimes it is just as important to figure out what you DON'T want to do, as what you want to do. Experience CTE!
Career Exploration Platform: Major Clarity
All KCS students have a Major Clarity account to assist with career exploration and planning. Each year, students will complete a personality assessment on the platform to update fit scores and careers of best fit. Students will also review the Academic & Career Plan annually to communicate goals and plans for the future. The Major Clarity platform will also be utilized in other capacities throughout the year and is available to students after graduation for career development needs.
