The overall purpose of this conference is to increase student involvement within KCPS by empowering students through this professional development experience. Students learn to advocate for themselves and valuable leadership skills. KCPS LIT creates opportunities for students to prepare for the world, self-discovery and collaborate through shared experiences and partnerships from community leaders. During the conference, students participate in workshops focused on the following pillars:
Ways to increase engagement on campus
Students feel equipped to advocate for the community and themselves
Leverage student learning outside the classroom by utilizing an equity lens
Financial Literacy
Trauma Informed Care
Real World Learning

Students must be registered for the event by May 21st. Those who register will receive an invite to the kick-off event on May 22, 2025 – KCPS LIT ICE CREAM SOCIAL.
WHEN AND WHERE CAN MY STUDENT REGISTER?

Yes, students will stay overnight from June 5th – 7th. Please note the conference concludes on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. Parents/Guardians may pick up their student at Park University or at the designated pick-up location.
If your student elects to go home daily, you will be responsible for their transportation home. (You must pick up your student from Park University) Students will need to check out with their chaperone and advisor. Parents must provide the names who may pick up students daily. This information must be provided during the registration process.
Buses will be provided at all secondary summer school sites. Students requiring transportation will need to be dropped off on Thursday, June 5th at their closest summer school site. Students will return to the site location on Saturday, June 7th. Students will need a ride from the designed summer school site. If a student is unable to get to the designated site, please contact Kimberly Hester at Khester@kcpublicschools.org or 816-210-4579. Arrangements must be made before the event.
Yes, for every 10 students, an adult chaperone will be used to ensure the safety of each student. Chaperones will be required to stay overnight and will be certified/classified KCPS staff who have completed the state/federal background check.
Please know registering for KCPS LIT guarantees you a spot during the conference. Unfortunately, only 100 students can attend the event yearly. Canceling last minute removes the opportunity from other students and we pay and prepare in advance for your attendance!
We understand emergencies happen, and ask if you are sick, please stay home. For all other non-emergency-related concerns, please cancel May 23rd to allow waitlisted students to take your spot!
