Kia ora, we are Room 16 at Kawakawa Primary School. We are Year 3/4 students. We enjoy ...
We are working on being kind, using our manners all the time, and showing our school values, which are respect, responsibility, and resilience. We are starting the year fresh with our BSLA mahi, which will help us improve our literacy. We are looking forward to learning lots this year!
Kia ora, I am Room 16's teacher, Whaea Dana. I have been teaching at Kawakawa Primary School since Term 4 2006, mostly with the senior students. The last few years I've worked in the junior syndicate and loved it! It has been a big learning curve for me, but I wouldn't have it any other way. This year, I am looking forward to teaching a new bunch of students and, as always, am keen to help my students be the best they can be. I have a passion for teaching children to read, write, and learn maths, to love learning, and to grow their curious minds. I have trained in BSLA and am looking forward to starting the year fresh with this learning and seeing our students progress through it. This year, I am also embarking on my level 5 Te Reo Māori journey through Te Wananga o Awanuiarangi, and I am looking forward to applying that knowledge in my everyday life. My learning journey is never complete, and I love having new tools and knowledge in my kete. My goals for this year are around enhancing student's enjoyment of reading and encouraging reading for pleasure. Also, using trauma-informed, mana-enhancing practices to aid student emotions and behaviour.
I love to read, play sports, hang out at the beach or in nature, and spend time with my whānau. I have 2 children, Tegan, who is 13 years old and starting at BOIC this year, and Damian, who is 10 years old. I am happily married to my husband Brian. We have a gorgeous little rescue pup, Polly, who is turning 2 this year.
Bring on 2026!
