Term 3 Week 5
Newsletter

Kia Ora Base 5 Whanau

The last two weeks have been full of learning here in Base 5. All students presented their UC4L shark tanks to their class members. Everyone showed courage while presenting. There are lots of fantastic projects about to get underway, as students prepare to start making/implementing what they have designed. We are so proud of our students for the quality of work that they have been completing within their UC4L projects.

We have been lucky enough to have been given some amazing opportunities. Some of our students attended a leader's morning, which they will carry on over the next couple of weeks. Our Year 8 students have started their BRAVE programme which sees them jumping off the Auckland Harbour Bridge at the end of the term.

As always, you can contact the Base 5 teachers at any time by email, or come into class and say hello!:

ATTENDANCE & LATENESS

Our goal as a class this term is to achieve 90% attendance or higher.

So far this year, we have achieved:
Term 1: 90.0%
Term 2: 89.7%

Term 3: .... We are currently sitting at 91.8%! Some great progress as we were 91.3% a couple of weeks ago.

It is important to ensure that your child is coming to school on time every day and is getting plenty of rest at home.

Well done to our students who are attending school every day in order to reach that attendance goal.

Literacy Magazines

As part of equipping for life, our students are working on designing Adverts. For the adverts, we have analyzed current advert trends and they have incorporated some of these ideas and skills into their own adverts.

This week we have been focusing on writing book and movie reviews for their chosen magazines. Have a chat with your child at home about their magazine and what they are up to and what they are doing next. There may even be a way for you to help them out at home.

BOYS COUNTIES ZONE NETBALL

Massive shout out to our boys who represented Kauri Flats School at the Boys Counties Zone Netball tournament. The boys played really well and went out there with a great attitude.

Top Row (L-R): Ethan Lister, Sebastian Banno, Harveer Sohal, Taman Singh, Akshnoor Singh, Bentley Jones & Valu Katoa
Bottom Row (L-R): Jason Zhou, Levi Pere, Francis Padilla & Ibrahim Saleem

WESTS TIGERS

Last week some Base 5 Rugby lovers were given the opportunity to meet and practice with the Wests Tigers. They learned some new skills, played games, and got to have a chat with the players. It was great to see Base 5 students not only joining in but helping other students from other bases during the session.

Learning In Action

Check out these images of our students getting the Mahi done!

Mahi Tahi AKO 2

Just a reminder that our last round of Mahi Tahi’s is starting up next week. Please be on the lookout on HERO to book with one of your child’s teachers.

We are splitting the Mahi Tahi into 3 groups due to numbers. If you don’t see your child’s name this round. Then they will be having their Mahi Tahi next term.
