Registration Instructions

The audition form can be found HERE. Video submissions are due no later than Tuesday, May 21 by 4:00pm.

Auditions will be recorded (video) and submitted via Google Forms for the Katy ISD Jazz Workshop. This audition is to ensure that students are placed on the correct part for the workshop.

VERY IMPORTANT: Audition recordings are due by no later than Tuesday, May 21st at 4pm. Audition results will be posted on the first day of the workshop. Please email bryanacremer@katyisd.org if you have technical issues with submitting the auditions.

Audition Music for the Katy ISD Jazz Workshop 2024 can be found here: 

Students entering grade 7 in August 2024: Perform the “A” section of the etude and stop at letter “B” (mm. 1-12). ALL pianists and bassists should perform the entire selection.

Students entering grades 8-12 in August 2024: Perform the “A” and “B” sections of the etude. ALL pianists and bassists should perform the entire selection.

Additional information:

• Take your time and play your music at a speed that allows you to perform your best. 

• Make certain that you and your instrument are clearly visible in the video recordings. 

• Metronomes are not required but can be used in the recording if it helps you.

• Percussionists can perform on any mallet instrument except glockenspiel (bells). This can include xylophone, marimba, practice marimba, or vibraphone. Percussionists can also opt to audition or drum set instead of OR in addition to mallets.

• Pianists can perform on any piano, digital or acoustic.

• Guitarists can perform on any electric guitar. Acoustic guitar will not be useable at the workshop.

• Bassists can perform on an upright bass (bowed or plucked), electric bass, or bass guitar. If you choose to bring an upright bass, it must have a pickup installed.

• Drumset players, please submit a video not to exceed two minutes in length showcasing the musician’s ability to play TWO contrasting styles. This can include swing (medium or up-tempo), latin, ballad, or straight-8th rock.

Schedule

• Auditions: April 30-May 21 (submit online, see above for more information)

• Daily Schedule: Tuesday-Friday, 9:00am-3:00pm (NOTE: participants must bring own lunch each day)

• Final Concert: Friday, May 31, 3:30pm, James E. Taylor HS PAC
