OUR KATY CAVALIERS YOUTH LACROSSE CLUB
OUR KATY CAVALIERS YOUTH LACROSSE CLUB
PURPOSE
The Katy Cavaliers Youth Lacrosse Club promotes and develops the sport of lacrosse amoung the youth in the Katy community. We provide opportunities for players to embrace the concepts of teamwork and leadership. We coach all our players to compete with high EFFORT, play and practice with a good ATTITUDE leading to coachability, and to treat all teammates, competitors, coaches, and parents with SPORTSMANSHIP at top of mind. Our goal for the program is to teach lacrosse players the skills needed to excel in the sport with the outcome being the development of the player both in lacrosse skills and life skills with a parallel goal of preparing players to transition from youth to high school lacrosse programs. We prioritize player development over short term game outcomes to build player skills, confidence, and a love for the game. Winning is an outcome of continuous player and team development and on field execution.

CLUB HISTORY
In 2005 a group of enthusiastic parents formed the Katy Cavaliers Youth Lacrosse Club. With only one team consisting of 7th and 8th graders the youth program began playing with other clubs already established in the Houston area. A few seasons later the club added a 5th and 6th grade team, dubbed the “Young Guns” and divided the original team into separate 7th and 8th grade teams. Although the Cavaliers program contemplated merging with another local youth club in 2008 and 2009, a successful recruiting effort doubled the number of players in the 2010 season. In 2014, the Katy Cavaliers Youth program merged with the Katy Valkyries, the local girls lacrosse program, making it the largest youth lacrosse club in the Houston area and building a complete lacrosse program for players from kindergarten through 12th grade.

The 2026 season was a great success! We fielded teams for each grade grouping, 2U, 4U, 6U and 8U. All of the teams competed valiantly throughout the season, bringing high effort, good attitudes, and demonstrated sportsmanship to the field. All our teams participated in the end of season tournament with our 2U and 4U teams reaching the final games.

We are excited to have Patrick England coach our 2026 Katy Youth Lacrosse Club 4U team. The 2025 season was Patrick's first year with the program as his son started playing with the 2U Katy Cavs team. Patrick volunteered to coach one of the 2U teams leading the boys to a successful season and having several of the 2025 players join travel teams in the summer and fall. We welcome Christian to the Katy Cavaliers Youth club as the 2026 6U head coach. Christian is a student at the University of Houston majoring in Child Psychology and is a member of the Cougars lacrosse club as an attackman leading the team in points scored. Christian played high school lacrosse with Langham Creek, where he was one of the team’s top scorers in his senior year. He started his lacrosse journey with the Langham Creek youth club while improving his skillset with several seasons of travel lacrosse including seasons with Legacy Lacrosse club, coached by the new Katy High School coach Jason Smith, and the Dirty Birds lacrosse club. Rueben Guerrero
Rueben Guerrero
8U Coach
My name is Coach Rueben and I have played lacrosse for almost 20 years. I have coached both men and womens lacrosse as young as elementary to high school for about 12 years and have been on and off a part of Katy Cavaliers for just as long! I work with all skill levels and know all sides of the sport, I played midfield but have also done all other positions such as faceoffs, long pole, and attack. I have played coop/womens rules and have competed on a collegiate level, winning some medals and championships in San Antonio, Houston and Durham in the UK. I have a Bachelors In geology and a Masters in Archaeology but really have also had great passion for lacrosse, three things I love and treat with intent. I have always focused my coaching on improvement and development with team work and the ability to keep new and returning players intrigued enough to keep playing. I still play here in Houston and will be more than willing to have chats about players or mindsets, I very much look forward to what this year brings and go Cavs!
