He Paki Taonga i a Māui

Award-winning scriptwriter David Brechin-Smith felt so inspired by taonga he wrote about at Te Papa Museum, he created a te reo TV show for kids. Brechin-Smith and Te Papa te reo writer Ranea Aperahama picked treasures from the museum's collection to base 18 short tales on. Māori hero and trickster Māui, played by Kahukura Royal (Granda), narrates the stories, which are interspersed with animated images created by Māori artists. The Māori Television series covers classic tales like how the kiwi lost its wings, as well as modern stories, such as when the Rainbow Warrior ship was bombed.
