укр eng

Computer Science as a speciality was initiated at the School of Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering (now the School of Mathematics and Computer Science) back in 1998 within the Department of Higher Mathematics and Informatics. First students began their studies in 1999 and in 2003 the first graduation of bachelor degree students took place. In 2004 the Department of Theoretical and Applied Computer Science was founded specially to train students in Computer Science and this same year the first masters majoring in Computer Science graduated from the Department and the School.

From this on our department trains specialists majoring in Computer Science according to the three educational programmes:

Theoretical and Applied Computer Science, bachelor level, 4 years of studies.

Informatics, master level, professional programme, 1 year and 4 months of studies.

Informatics, master level, scientific programme, 1 year and 9 months of studies.

Students of all programmes acquire knowledge and skills in theoretical basics and best practices of modern IT area. Due to their fundamental training, our students are competitive and in high demand in the IT labour market. They become highly professional specialists in modelling complex processes and systems, design and development of distributed programming systems, parallel computing, multilevel intellectual data analysis, big data processing including modern methods of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

At the final stage, the graduates prepare their qualification diploma theses which they defend in front of the special qualification council.

Our department also conducts training of postgraduate students in Computer Science speciality, which is the natural development of previous two specialities «Information Technology» and «Mathematical Modelling and Computing Methods».

The teaching staff of our department is highly professional and all its members take the educational process with complete responsibility and love.

Our department keeps in constant touch with software companies, updates required competencies, professional programs, educational plans, lists of courses and syllabuses according to the quickly changing state of the art in the IT area. That is why the employment of our graduates has never been a problem; on the contrary, they are on-demand in software companies all over the world. The majority of lecturers are certified by software companies as they regularly take training in new areas of IT development.

Our department conducts scientific research in different areas of modern IT; teaching staff and students takes part in international scientific conferences, publish the results of their work in international editions with high impact factor, participate in solving the key problems in the IT area.

The international activities of our department include double diploma programmes, academic mobility of students and teachers, scientific cooperation with leading universities of the world.

Our department keeps in touch with graduates of different years; they now live and work all over the world. They recall their years at our university and department with deep warmth and gratitude.
