The Broker Pre-Licensing course sets the foundation for your real estate licensing education. You will need to complete this course in 6 months or less to be eligible to take the end-of-course exam. If you do not finish the course in six months, you must start completely over. The North Carolina Real Estate Commission does not allow us to extend your time past six months. This includes both the initial and retake exam attempts.
We have found that Online video students who set a regular study schedule do better than those who do not. We recommend completing two units of study per week.
You will need to schedule your exam once you have finished the course. You must complete the entire course to schedule the exam.
The final exam consists of a 112-question, multiple-choice online exam.
The final exam is timed (3.0 hours), and at least 75% or 84 questions correct is considered a passing score.
When taking the exam, you can check questions for review. However, you will only be able to review any questions once all questions have been answered.
You have two attempts to pass the exam. If you do not pass after two attempts, you MUST retake the 75-hour course.
You have six months to retake the course, free of charge.
After passing your final exam with Kaplan, you will be able to sit for the NC state exam with the NCREC.

State regulations require that you take a proctored final exam. The exam must be proctored virtually by Kaplan. No third-party proctoring services will be accepted. You must complete your course before you enroll in a proctoring session and attempt the exam. You are allowed two attempts to pass the exam. The same proctoring process must be followed for each exam attempt.
Per state regulations, all students seeking North Carolina Real Estate Pre Licensing Education credit must have a video camera (webcam), and the camera must be enabled for the entire duration of the exam.
State regulations require that you attempt the exam within 180 days of purchasing your course. The sooner you take the final exam, statistically, the better you will score. You will not be able to launch your exam if your access period expires.
If you are unsuccessful on your first attempt, you are allowed to retake the exam as long as you also complete the retake attempt within your 180-day access period. If you are unsuccessful on your second attempt, please contact Customer Support to enroll in a new course.
1) Click here to enroll yourself in a proctoring session in Kaplan's virtual classroom. You will receive a class confirmation email and an online access email. You will be asked to enter the virtual classroom via the LMS at least five minutes before your session is scheduled to begin. Late-arriving students may be subject to a cancellation/rescheduling fee.
2) You must have a microphone, speakers or headset, and a video camera (webcam). The proctor must be able to see and hear you at all times (and vice versa).
3) You will be asked to scan your camera around your testing area so the proctor can confirm that you do not have any available exam aids (open books, additional monitors, etc.).
4) You will be asked to share your screen so the proctor can confirm that you do not have additional browser tabs open that might aid in your exam.
5) You must have a state-issued identification card (you will be asked to hold it up to your camera and show it to the proctor at the time of the exam so the proctor can confirm your identity).
6) You must use a computer or a laptop (no phones or tablets) and a reliable internet connection (a hard-wired connection -- rather than Wi-Fi -- is recommended to ensure the best possible connectivity).
7) You should use Google Chrome as your internet browser.
8) Please click here to review the technical specifications and to run a quick, 30-second system test to verify your connection and system configurations. If you have technical difficulties, please call our Technical Support Team.
9) You are allowed two exam attempts. Each attempt must be proctored, and each attempt must take place within your 180-day access period. If you are unsuccessful on your first exam attempt, you must enroll in another virtual proctoring session for your second attempt.
10) After passing the exam, both you and the proctor must read the affirmation statements and check the “I affirm” checkboxes to complete the exam attempt.
11) You then must go back to the Dashboard and click the “Affidavit” icon. You must accept your affidavit to ensure your course is considered complete and so we can process and release your completion certificate.
12) Your proctor should give you permission to exit the virtual classroom. Closing the virtual classroom browser window/tab will exit you from the virtual classroom.
Upon passing the course exam, you will be able to complete the affidavit located on your dashboard. After you have digitally signed the affidavit you will be able to download a copy of your certificate. Please print or save this certificate for future use.
Kaplan will send your completion certificate to the NCREC within 5-7 days after your course completion.
