In this chapter we will be learning about how historians and geographers study the past in order to learn more about the present. Understanding the past can help people better understand the present and plan for the future. We will be studying maps to hep us understand more about where the different civilizations take place.
This assignment will be given in class and might need to be finished at home. If you look on the classroom calendar it will tell you when it is due. on this assignment you will need to include the following.
Parts of a Map
Key: is found on the bottom of the map. The map key tells you what the symbols on the map stand for. Symbols are small pictures on the map used for representing real things on our Earth
Scale: the relationship between distance on a map and actual distance on the earth. Scale may be represented by words (e.g., “one inch equals one mile”), a ratio or fraction (e.g., 1:63,360).
Compose: An object that appears on maps to identify four main directions: North, South, East and West.
Symbols: Symbols are small pictures on the map used for representing real things on our Earth.
