Welcome to KAMSC! Not only are you adjusting to KAMSC, but to attenting two (three) programs at one and high school in general. Whew - you have a lot on your plate! Be proactive by creating a schedule and keeping a planner. Form a support system early with your classmates and teachers. Plan on coming to KAMSC early in the morning, or checking out Open Lab as often as possible. Ask for help, even when you aren't convinced you need it, and always look for ways to improve. This year is all about growing and evolving into a rockstar KAMSC high school student - it takes time and isn't something just granted to you - you have to earn it!
It can be hard to watch your high-achieving student struggle, especially if it's the first time they've truly struggled. Encourage your student to reach out to their teachers, early and often - before and after school or during Open Lab are great times for this. Teachers, especially KAMSC teachers, honestly and truly expect students to ask questions and take ownership of their learning. Students should be doing KAMSC each and every day, so ask them what they've done today (or recently) and what they could do tomorrow. Follow the agenda here, or in Synergy, to see when your student is (or should be) working on a large project.
