GUIDELINES
Members whose total family adjusted gross income is below 400% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) for their family size are encouraged to apply for scholarships. See the chart below for details. For example, a family of four with a total income under $124,800 may qualify for a scholarship.
Members in good standing can apply for annual scholarships on a first-come, first-served basis. The scholarship period is from September 1st to August 31st each year. To maximize your chances of receiving a scholarship for the upcoming school year, submit your application in August.
All applicant information will remain confidential.
Students resigning from the KJSO before the end of the season may be asked to refund their scholarship award. Several missed private lessons or rehearsals may result in the withdrawal of the scholarship award.
Progress reports may be requested of both the student’s private teacher and the KJSO conductor.

The Posie Tomlinson College Scholarship was established by family and friends in memory of Posie Tomlinson. It is awarded annually to an outstanding student graduating from the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra (KJSO) who is planning to pursue a college degree in music. The non-renewable scholarship is for approximately $2500 and is awarded at the final concert of the season.
Eligibility Criteria
Student must be:
A member in good standing of the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra
A graduate of the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony in the year of applying
Accepted to an accredited four-year college, music school or conservatory
The entire amount of the scholarship must be expended within a year of the award, or the balance will be forfeited (some exceptions apply).
