Q2 meeting WSB recap:

• Update event messaging to emphasize that parents are welcome to attend @Justin Estes 

• There are safety vests and "I walked to school" stickers in the PTSA room.

• Plan 12/4 Holiday Theme event:

  • Confirm Santa availability @Katie Brenner-Taitapu

  • Explore prizes with Get Fit Kauai @Julie Shaw 

    • per Julie - Get Fit Kauai can donate one bike for sure and other small incentives but we can’t promise 2 bikes this year.  If we find more money between now and the end of the SY, we most certainly will donate 2 bikes.  

    • Does PTSA have money in our ptsa budget to purchase an additional bike if Get Fit Kauai can only donate one bike this year? Additional extra prizes i.e. basketball, soccer ball, etc.

  • Investigate snack options from commercial vendors

    • @Kendra Groth's contact at Odom Corporation and he is willing to donate hydration drinks for the kids

1st Walking School Bus of the Year -
Wednesday November 6th!

Volunteer Lead for Sign-Ins:

Objective:
Promote safe walking to school while building community engagement and encouraging healthy habits. The Walking School Bus program will operateevery 1st Wednesday of the month (weather permitting) , using fun themes to keep students excited and participating.

Program Overview

• Frequency:
  Every 1st Wednesday of the month

• Location & Meeting Point:
  Kalaheo Neighborhood Center 

• Time:
  7:00 AM - 7:30 AM

• Target Participants:
  All students and families are encouraged to join. This program is designed for Kindergarten through 5th grade.

• Supplies Needed:

  • Sign-in Sheets & Clipboards

  • Snacks (granola bars, fruit, or water bottles) 

  • Walking School Bus Banner (may need updating)

  • Themed Items (optional)

  • Prizes and Incentives

  • 
    

Monthly Budget Estimate: $25 - $50 (depending on snacks and themed items)

Next Steps for Co-Chairs:

1. Confirm the First Event Date:

   • Decide on the first event’s date and time (November 6th, 2024).

2. Create a Themed Calendar: (Ivy)

   • Develop a theme calendar for the year (e.g., every month, every other month?).

3. Create a Flyer 

   • Gather photos from past WSB 

4. Recruit more parent volunteers to support each event. (Kat)

   • Create Google Form and use flyer to send to parents via DOJO and PCNC

5. Send Initial Announcement to Parents & Teachers: Kat to Caroline for Dojo/PCNC

   • Create a welcome email with an overview of the program, dates, and themes.
