You can either work on your own or collaboratively.
Please remember if you choose to work collaboratively, that it is with someone/s you can work well with for a sustained period of time!
It is up to you what you choose to creative, but here are some examples to explore if you wish!
Make a list of all your items you'll need and gather your supplies.
E.g. - paper, glue, paint, markers, rocks, figurines etc.
Look online for inspiration, like Pinterest or YouTube. Sketch out what you want your diorama to look like. Include figures, items, colours, background, floor etc.
A diorama are small scenes created of layers of different materials. Decide on your theme!
E.g. the solar system
Once you've decided on a theme, you need to do some research so you are able to make your diorama as lifelike as possible. Think about the large and small details.
E.g. our solar system - planets, sun, moons, galaxy, stars, rings.
You need to select a box or container that:
is several inches deep
has an open faced front
big enough to include everything you need
A shoe or shipping box turned on its side works well!
Begin at the back of your container and work your way forward, adding layers to create depth.
To make your diorama look realistic you need to add details to the bottom of your box as well!
Start adding details inside your box. Work from the back of the box to the front. Place smaller items in front of larger ones.
Complete your scene with miniature figurines, furniture or models.
E.g. an astronaut!
Take a few moments to inspect your diorama. Make adjustments if needed. Make sure your spacing is even and your diorama is balanced. Now go ahead and glue everything down!
Students may send unfinished artwork home as a homework task, so this is a good place for them to revisit to remind themselves of the instructions.
