Maths
Find time to engage with daily number work.
Ask your child what learning we are doing in class and practise at home.
Practise writing the numbers using the correct formation.
Count forwards and backwards to 10, then 20, then 50, then 100, then 200.
Skip counting in 2's, 5's, 10's and 3's forwards and backwards.
Work on simple addition and subtraction problems ( for these make up a story) eg We have 4 books here and another 5 over there, how many do we have altogether? We have 7 biscuits and eat 3 how many do we have left?
Learn basic facts (and how to write these) first to 5, then to 10, then to 20.
Using vocabulary at home to encourage maths e.g. Fractions - finding halves and quarters of sets and wholes. We have made 12 cupcakes to share between 2/4 people. How many do we get each? Help to cut the pizza into half, then quarters. Find 1/2 of number sets ( groups of objects) to 10 then to 20.
Telling the time Learn the days of the week, talk about time as shown on the clock, read time to the hour and half hour.
Find time to play games involving numbers and strategies like Connect 4, Snakes and Ladders, and Card games.
