Hello, I’m Christopher Smades. I was born in Alaska and grew up in Las Vegas, NV. After finishing high school, I enlisted in the Army, which brought me back to the beautiful state of Alaska. While here, I met my wife, and after serving for just over eight years, I decided to transition out of the military. We now have two children; our eldest attends DPCS, and we look forward to our youngest joining this fantastic school when the time comes.
Currently, I work as an Air Traffic Control Supervisor at Ladd Army Airfield. I have a strong passion for physical fitness and enjoy taking on various physical challenges. One of the key reasons I was drawn to DPCS was its emphasis on intentional physical activity. I believe that a school that prioritizes active living will help our children develop healthy lifestyle habits. As President, I plan to prioritize not just the intellectual development of our students, but also to offer a diverse range of physical opportunities. My goal is to provide our children with various experiences they can draw from to cultivate hobbies that may last a lifetime.
Hello! My name is Susan Currier. I was born and raised on a small farm in Iowa and then attended college in Omaha, Nebraska. There I met my husband, who was born and raised in North Pole, and after graduating we moved back up to Alaska. I graduated with a degree in music education and taught at West Valley High School for five years and Barnette Magnet School for one year until becoming a stay at home mom of three and small business owner.
While we enjoyed homeschooling for two years, the educational opportunities DPCS offered intrigued us and we have not been disappointed with our choice to switch over to this school! I now have three students attending DPCS and I am grateful to have been able to join the APC. I have enjoyed the chance to be involved in education again and look forward to serving on a committee that not only supports the education of my own children, but our community’s children.

Hi All! My name is Maggie Curran and we have been lucky enough to be a part of DPCS since
December 2022.
I am from a small town in the Illinois and attended University of Arizona where I obtained a Master’s
in Special Education. I spent 5 years teaching in Elementary Self-Contained classrooms over several
states and districts before the arrival of our oldest and another move. I have been lucky enough to
be home with both of our kids these past years and feel grateful for the flexibility.
We moved to Alaska in December of 2022 and as my oldest started her first year as a school age
kiddo, I felt passionate about the chance to be involved with the Academic Policy Committee that
might allow me to better support Emma while having an opportunity to use my experience as both a
teacher and parent in education to support the community of DPCS.
Fast forward two years, we now have two children at DPCS and I am still so grateful for a staff and
community that continues to work hard to build upon the charter that brought us together.

Hello! My name is Sierra Glade, and I proudly teach third grade at Discovery Peak. I was born and raised in North Pole, Alaska, and I hold a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. My deep appreciation for this community has inspired my return, and I am dedicated to fostering connections between my students and the vibrant town that shaped my upbringing.
In addition to my passion for education, I love exploring the many adventures that Alaska has to offer. My family and I enjoy fishing, camping, and embracing the great outdoors throughout all seasons. I am also a proud dog mom to my beloved boy, Dexter.
I look forward to collaborating with the APC to help shape the future of our students, empowering them to enter the world with open minds and a sense of curiosity.

Hello, my name is Nicole Doyle. I was born into a military family and spent my childhood traveling the world. I attended Pacific Union College in Angwin, CA where I earned a bachelor’s degree and Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, CA where I obtained my diagnostic medical sonographer certificate. I currently work as a vascular sonograper at Fairbanks Vascular Surgery.
My family moved here in Sept 2022 and we have been apart of the DPCS community since 2023. I have two children currently at DPC, with one more who will hopefully be joining her siblings in the years to come.
I look forward to furthering my passion for the APC and the work it does to make Discovery Peak a unique and enriching school for all our children.
Hello! My name is Min Theus. I was born and raised in Korea and acquired a bachelor's degree in language there. I met my husband, who is in the army, while working as a translator and moved to the USA after we got married. I got a teaching certificate in Texas, but military life moved us overseas and to different states.
Currently, I am working as a 6~8 tutor at Discovery Peak Charter School, and I have two girls attending this school. I love small school settings, and one of my favorites is how kids get hands-on activities and work together with their clusters rather than learning from a textbook during exploration. I look forward to continuing working as an APC and staff member to help and support our school and community.
