Landfills

Did you know landfills are bad for the environment? Is there a better way to do it and not take up lots of land for trash? Do you think its good for the environment? Well i'm here to tell u what it does to the environment and some facts like how much trash we throw away a year and more.

Each year Americans throw away about 1,200 pounds of organic garbage that could be composted and the U.S. is the #1 trash producing country in the world 1,609 pounds per year,per person and that means 5% of the world's people is 40% of the worlds waste. The U.S. discards about 16 billion diapers, one billion six hundred million pens, 2 billion razor blades, and 200 twenty million car tires and enough aluminum to rebuild the US commercial air fleet four times over. The highest point in Hamilton County, Ohio is Mount Rumpke but it is actually a mountain of trash at the Rumpke sanitary landfill and is towering 1,045 feet above sea level.

To me I don't think that landfills are the best way to get rid of trash because they take up lots of land we could use for something else and u can't grow anything there after they get rid of all the trash, and it might take years for all the trash and things to decompose or for them to get rid of it, and I wonder if there's a better way to get rid of the trash. But I can see the ways that we can't really do anything like how there's not really another place to put the trash and more.

In conclusion I hope scientists and other people are trying to figure out a better way to get rid of trash and I hope we can decrease the number of waste in the U.S. and other places and I hope it gets better over the years because that stuff is getting in the air and one way I think we can help is that we shouldn't litter as much and we should be careful about how much we throw away and we should all try to help the environment get better and to not have so much waste in the landfills.

Landfills Poem

So much, so much that we waste,

do we think about what it does to the environment?

no we don't and it's not okay,

so much trash that the environment can't resist,

but we can try to fix that, and make a difference!
