Mission Statement
We adhere to the core purpose of Albemarle County Public Schools to establish a community of learners and learning, through relationships, relevance and rigor, one student at a time. Our school counseling program includes the following services to achieve this mission.
Vision Statement
We believe that all children should have access to equitable opportunities and resources. School should be a place where all children feel safe, connected, and can have a space to grow and learn. A school counselor should be an advocate for students and promote their well-being and potential.
Services We Provide
Individual Counseling
Counseling is developmental and is designed to help students develop an understanding of themselves or others, define goals, and resolve conflict. We DO NOT do psychotherapy or other techniques used in a clinical setting. Parents or teachers may also request that we see a child to discuss a particular concern.
Group Counseling
Sometimes students who share a common concern find it helpful to meet together to share ideas and support. This may include, but is not limited to, lunch bunches.
Classroom Lessons
Your child will receive various classroom counseling lessons. These are intended to spark student social-emotional, academic, and career growth. Examples include our school-wide CARES focus, organizational skills, goal setting, coping skills, career exploration, etc.
