As the School Counselor, I am here to support student's academic and emotional well being. School Counselors offer classroom lessons that focus on three domains: Academic Development, Career Exploration and Social and Emotional Development. I also offer small groups and short term one on one counseling with students. Students, teachers or parents can request for me to work with a student on a variety of concerns. School Counselors collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support the needs of the whole child.
As the School Counselor, I can also help connect families to resources in our community. One such resources in a food program we work with that offers food boxes biweekly. For more information about this program or others please email me! (mkopley@k12albemarle.org)
he 2026-2027 school year marks the beginning of my 26th year in education, and I am as passionate about this work as ever.
After graduating from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Elementary Education, I began my career at Garrisonville Elementary School in Stafford, VA, where I taught second grade and kindergarten. During that time, I completed my Master of Education in Counselor Education at Virginia Commonwealth University. In 2004, I transitioned into school counseling at Wilderness Elementary in Spotsylvania County, where I had the privilege of supporting students and families for over a decade. I joined the Hollymead Elementary family in 2017 and have loved being part of this community ever since.
When I am not at school, you can find me cheering on the New York Mets, hitting the trails, catching live music, or spending time on or near the water. I also enjoy yoga and am a certified Kidding Around Yoga teacher. I feel love bringing that passion for mindfulness and movement to kids. Most importantly, I love making memories with my daughter, my dog Timber, and my friends.
