School Counseling

As the School Counselor, I am here to support student's academic and emotional well being. School Counselors offer classroom lessons that focus on three domains: Academic Development, Career Exploration and Social and Emotional Development. I also offer small groups and short term one on one counseling with students. Students, teachers or parents can request for me to work with a student on a variety of concerns. School Counselors collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support the needs of the whole child.

As the School Counselor, I can also help connect families to resources in our community. One such resources in a food program we work with that offers food boxes biweekly. For more information about this program or others please email me! (mkopley@k12albemarle.org)

About me

The 2022-2023 school year marks the start of my 22nd year in education! After graduating from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY with a BS in Psychology and Elementary Education, I began my career at Garrisonville Elementary School in Stafford, VA. There, I taught second grade and kindergarten. During that time, I also completed my Master's of Education in Counselor Education at Virginia Commonwealth University. I began as a School Counselor at Wilderness Elementary in Spotsylvania County in 2004 and stayed there until joining the team at Hollymead in 2017!

When not at school I enjoy spending with my daughter and our dog. We spend a lot of time outdoors! I like to paddle board, practice yoga, hike, camp, bike, listen to music and read. I am also a certified Kidding Around Yoga teacher and love sharing that passion with others.
