I am honored to have served as a middle school counselor for Albemarle County Public Schools since 1999. I grew up in the area, attended University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, and then University of Virginia for a Masters of Counselor Education. I enjoy spending time with my husband and children, hiking, crossword puzzles, and certainly working with middle school students!

I am proud to be a part of the Burley School Counseling team. I started my college life at Tidewater Community College and then transferred to Old Dominion University before moving to Charlottesville to get my Masters of Counselor Education at UVA. I enjoy running, playing piano, and a cozy chair with a nice book.

My name is Mark Kevin McCoy Jr., son of Mark K. McCoy Sr., and Nikkie McCoy, and the oldest of four siblings Malcolm, Datez, and Daja. I was born in Lubbock, Texas, grew up in Big Island, Va "Bedford County" area. I went to Liberty High School in which I was a student athlete and graduated from High School in 2006, with Academic Letter, and with Honors. I attended Radford University and obtained my undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, while continuing my love for athletics working with and playing for Radford's Club Teams. I began working with youth in the court service unit and completed a graduate program at Liberty University in Human Services Counseling. I have worked in many settings with youth and the diverse population. My greatest blessings are my two beautiful daughters and their mother. My aspirations are to be a positive role model for my family, the community I serve and our youth.

I'm so happy to be back at Burley again this year with the wonderful counseling team. I'm originally from Northern Virginia but have lived and worked in the Charlottesville area schools for the last 5 years. I received my Master of Social Work in 2015 and earned my LCSW in 2020. I love spending time outside, going to local restaurants, & hanging out with my fish, Severus!

School Psychologist
I have worked in Albemarle County Public Schools for 9 years as a School Psychologist and I am excited to start my first year at Burley Middle School! I have several roles which include: supporting the School Based Intervention Team, evaluating students to determine eligibility for Special Education Services, provide counseling as related service as part of a student’s Individualized Education Plan and keeping students safe with Self-Harm/Threat Assessments. When I’m not at school, I enjoy making art, going for hikes with my dog CoCo and kayaking. I look forward to supporting the Burley Community this year!
