Apple Tree/Hand
First we listened to Arnold's Apple Tree by Gail Gibbons and talked about picking apples in the fall. Then we started on the Kinder Square 1 Art project which is an apple tree whose branches are made from each child's hand print. First we use tissue paper and glue to make the background ground and sky. Then each child paints a tree trunk, places their hand in green paint to make the branches and uses one fingertip to add the apples. These will be sent to the Square 1 art company to be copied so parents can buy a gift object with their child's picture on it. (See the Square 1 Art tab)
Shapes make a picture!
After listening to a book called "The Shape of Things" by Dayle Ann Dodd, Kindergarteners practiced scissor skills by cutting out a mixture of circles, squares, rectangles and triangles. Then they chose a piece of colored paper and arranged all or some of the pieces into a picture of their choosing. Next they glued down the shapes and finally added color with crayons or markers.
Welcome to a new year of Art 25-26!
Kindergarteners dove right into creating on the first day. We introduces shape pictures and started with a circle. They were introduced to Wassily Kandinsky's circles and then created a circle of their own with crayons and paint. We talked about what colors were made when we mixed the primary colors, red, yellow and blue. Then I put them all together for their first shared piece of Kindergarten art.
End of year 24-25
