Nicholas (Nick) Smith, Ed.D. is the SEAD Program Team Lead. Dr. Smith has a BA in Education, a Masters and Advanced Masters in School Psychology, and a doctorate in School Psychology with an emphasis in Clinical Psychology. Nick has worked with Emotionally Disabled children and young people the majority of his professional life. He has worked as a school social worker, a school psychologist, a psychologist, a behavior and autism specialist, and a principal for a school serving emotionally disabled Kg - 12 students. His abiding interest is in helping children develop the social, emotional, and academic skills needed to be successful in the work world and to have a positive, fulfilling personal life. Nick is also committed to helping parents develop the skills needed to effectively raise their children and to provide a loving, supportive family environment. Lastly, he feels deeply that the community needs to come together to support each other through the respect for and the recognition of the struggles that families face on a daily basis to live with dignity.

Tonisha Cooke received her Bachelors of Social Work degree from Norfolk State University, a historically black university (HBCU) in 2008. Tonisha is a Charlottesville native who takes great pride working with and in her community. Currently Tonisha is a member of the newly established Social Emotional and Academic Development (SEAD) team in Albemarle County Public Schools. Previously Tonisha worked within the Albemarle County Department of Social Services in the child welfare department working with families to prevent foster care placement of children and as a school based Family Support Worker in County schools. Tonisha has also worked in the mental health field in the Charlottesville community as well. Tonisha has experience in community building, working with multi-disciplinary teams, collaborating with multiple systems, working in and with the court system, partnering with families, and much more. Tonisha is a passionate advocate for families, she is very knowledgeable about community resources, and uses a strengths based approach when working with families.

Picture of Kristen Jamison

Kristen Roorbach Jamison, M.T., Ph.D., is an applied developmental scientist specializing in relationship-based strategies for improving learning capacity and behavior. Dr. Jamison is a Governor-appointed member of the Virginia Interagency Coordinating Council and has been invited to speak across the country as a social & emotional development expert. She is currently a member of the SEAD team in Albemarle County Public Schools, an adjunct professor in the Batten School for Public Policy at the University of Virginia, and the Educational Director and Founder of The Loop Center for Social & Emotional Development.

Catrina Sims, M.ED, is a member of the Social, Emotional, and Academic Development team (SEAD) in the Albemarle County Public Schools. She is a passionate educator who has served in roles as an elementary classroom teacher, Instructional Coach, and Title I Specialist since since graduating from James Madison University in 2004. Catrina has experience with community and family engagement. She is a firm believer that building positive relationships and family engagement are essential components to student academic success.
