6th Grade
This page is for students who are entering 6th grade in September and will be in Hi-Cap Math for the first time.
These students may be enrolled in Math 2 during the 2023-24 school year. Math 2 focuses primarily on 7th grade math standards, which means that students will be "skipping" some 6th grade concepts. Therefore, before September, it is important to make sure that they have exposure to the major foundations of 6th grade math to smooth the transition. This page has some suggestions to help your child over the summer.
Instructions for Students and Families
There are two options for Summer Boost mathematics.
Option 1: Khan Academy
Go to the Khan Academy website at https://www.khanacademy.org/
You may create an account for you and your student, but you do not have to. If you do not wish to create an account click on the "Courses" menu in the upper left corner.
We recommend choosing either the "Get Ready for 7th Grade" course which will review essential 6th grade math topics or selecting "See all Math," scrolling down, and choosing the course title "6th Grade Math (Illustrative Mathematics)." Illustrative Mathematics is the curriculum used in Shoreline middle schools and this course is aligned to the grade they have missed.
Have your student work through the assigned lessons and tests. There are lesson tutorials and helpful hints as your child progresses.
Option 2: Zearn.org
Go to the Zearn website at www.zearn.org
You will need to create a free account. Instructions for how to do this are on the Accessing Zearn.org page in this website.
Have your student work through the assigned lessons and tests. There are engaging video lessons and helpful hints as your child progresses.
Students who have struggled to engage with Khan Academy may appreciate Zearns format.
