Greetings!

I wanted to introduce myself as your student’s science teacher. While the 8th grade team sends a general email on Fridays, I wanted to share some specific details about our science class to help you support your student at home.

Class Updates and Assignments

For information on what we are doing in class and upcoming due dates, please refer to Planbook. This is also the first place students should check if they are absent to see what they need to make up.

Grades and Missing Assignments

Infinite Campus serves as our gradebook and reflects completed work. If an assignment is marked “missing,” it means it hasn’t been turned in, either because it’s late or the student was absent. Missing assignments can (and should) be made up.

Science Checkpoints

Throughout each unit, I offer several short assessments called checkpoints to gauge students’ understanding. Checkpoints can be retaken until the unit test date, but it is up to students to take the initiative to retake them and improve their scores. We have discussed this in class, and there is a sign in the classroom with details on how to retake checkpoints. Checkpoints can be made up until a unit test. This date will be posted in the classroom as well.

Encouraging Self-Advocacy

As 8th graders prepare for high school, our team is dedicated to helping students develop their self-advocacy skills. We are excited to watch them grow in confidence and take ownership of their learning throughout the year.
